There is no doubt that Joe Dimaggio was a great hitter. His 56 game hitting streak is often pointed to as the most unbreakable record in sports. Though Dimaggio got a hit in every one of those 56 games(and 2214 hits in all), he hit all of them from the right side. A big mistake, then, by the ever-embattled United States Postal Service. Though they have a hit on their hands with the new series of 4 Hall Of Famers stamps, Dimaggio never got a hit batting lefthanded as pictured. Not as obvious (or as valuable) as the famed inverted jenny stamp, but a big oops nonetheless.
UPDATE: Looks like the big oops is on us. Though the batter appears left handed because of the bat angle, Dimaggio’s right hand is on top and his shoulder dropped, indicating it is the follow-through of a right hander. We still think the bat’s angle is not consistent with a follow-through though.
